Cobalt Crush

Lately I've been obsessed with cobalt blue.  I found this skirt at Bianca Nygard, but I balked at paying the $90 they wanted for a length of gauzy material (no matter how pretty), sewn to an elastic waistband.  This pleated skirt is blue, white and black...I loooove this skirt.

I checked out other fashions at Nygard.  I found a lot of blue prints, bold 80s colors (think hot pink, fuschia, forest green, canary yellow), and it made me yearn for new spring clothes. So what do I typically do when I'm obsessed with a certain color, or a certain item of clothing?  Why I hit the thrift stores looking for a substitute of course!!  Luckily I bumped into a 50% off sale at the Salv Army.

Blue and aqua tie-dye blouse - Jones of New York.  Think I paid about $3 for this.

Aqua, purple print blouse.  Jones New York $3.

Blue, aqua and purple print shirt, Old Navy, $3.

Eyelet fabric!!
Another trend I've been obsessed with is eyelet fabric and lace.  When I saw this eyelet blazer I snapped it up.  It's a bit biggish, so I'll have to tailor it down a notch.  It was about $3.

Eyelet fabric goodness!!

There are some things I have a hard time resisting.  One of them is muted granny prints.  Behold this chambray shirt with a sublte floral pattern.

Obsessed much with closeups?

So for about $15 I bought some new (to me) spring clothing...I did go back for the skirt a few weeks later when it was marked down to $45.  I got the last one!!  All I need is to find a slip to wear it with.  One of my favorite blogs is my edit a few years ago she did a great post on.thrifting slips

I'm going to take Jentine's advice and hunt down a slip to wear with my new maxi skirt.

Mother's Day jewelery thrift haul

Happy Belated Mother's Day!!  Behold my jewelery thrift haul!!  This jewelery was purchased on 2 separate occasions at the Salv Army.

Vintage goodness!!
Above we have 3 pairs of earings, a multi-color gold necklace and a red thermoset butterfly bracelet (hmmmmm, thermoset!!!).  The earrings were part of a large haul.  I picked them up on the Saturday before Mother's Day.  The kind staff at the Salv Army had just put out 2 bins of earrings.  The earrings were amazingly priced at 50 cents per pair.  The necklace and butterfly bracelet were purchased on another occasion (but from the same Salv Army), they cost $4 each.

This lot consists of a light purple necklace and 4 pairs of earrings.  I looove these vintage earrings, most of them are a lot larger than the earrings I'd normally wear.  That's why I love thrift shopping - I get to try trends I wouldn't normally try.  The bottom gold pair features a chunky gold settings with coral cabachons. They are clip earrings, and I'm going to try to wear them as clips.  If they don't work out, I'll convert them to clips.  The necklace and earrings were 50 cents each....phre-owwww!!!

This lot consists of 2 necklaces and 6 pairs of earrings.  The 2 necklaces were $4 each, the earrings were 50 cents each. There is a lot of variety here, milk glass screw-back earrngs, giant turquoise chevron earrings, purple and pink enamel earrings...all lovely vintage which is far superior in quality to most of the dreck you'll find in stores now.

Chevron baby!!!

Zowie!!

I'm quite taken by these necklaces.  The necklace on the left features a picture of an ancient chariot rider and horse.  The necklace on the right is a maple leaf (I loves those maple leaves!!).

Sometimes the Salv Army is hit or miss for jewelery.  I lucked out because 2 bins of about 100 pairs of earrings were just put out on the sales floor.  I used to volunteer at the Salv Army - so I figure that the staff let the earrings accumulate until they had enough to justify making someone put them on cards and price them.  I'm so greatful that these fabulous vintage earrings are now MINE!!!  I can hardly wait to wear them.

After Hibernation comes Spring

After Hibernation comes Spring.  It used to be that after Winter came Spring, but this year Mother Nature decided to mix things up a little.

Cottage view of the lake, Victoria Day weekend

The first official day of Spring was March 20th.  Gentle viewers, please examine the pictures below.  One month after Spring arrived, I woke up to this.

Really???
                                   Unbelievable.

e
I just put my lawn ornaments out the week before!!
                            Unbe-frickin-lievable.

There are the little guys.

The snow didn't stay too long, and eventually I was brave enough to put plants on the desk (don't ask what happened when the frost hit 2 weeks ago).

I spent a LOT of time this past winter lying in bed trying to keep warm.  I whiled away the time trying to remember what it was like to feel the air on my bare legs - and designing my vegetable garden.  I also watched A LOT of Netflix.  Apparently Netflix is doing really well.  I reckon that Netflix's success is inversely related to warm weather in Canada ;)

So I hibernated this past winter - I didn't get out and ski, or snowshoe, or walk.  I didn't skate.  I shovelled the driveway, begrudgingly.  Then eventually when the snow kept coming (we had a record year for snowfall this year), I started driving through the snow.

I also stopped posting, and I'm sorry about that.  As part of my amends, I plan to do a whack of thrift haul posts.  I'd also like to share a picture of my dog, otherwise known as Sugar the wonder dog, as we head out to camp (otherwise known as "the cottage by the lake").

"Are we there yet?"
The lake!!!

Victoria Day Weekend is tradionally the time that Canadians flock to camp (aka the cottage) to start the season.  This year, there was still ice and snow on the lake.  It was still nice to go out to the lake - the air smelt amazing, and it was good to watch the wildlife.  On the drive to the lake I saw 2 bear cubs, a herd of skinny deer and numerous rabbits. Before the sun set each night, I would watch the darkening sky and listen to the loons call to each other.

I'm glad that warmer weather is on it's way...I'm aching to wear pretty skirts, sandals...and to loose some of the Netflix induced weight that I've gained.  :)

If you look closely at the bottom left corner of the picture above, you'll see Sugar the wonder dog, sitting in a chair next to the fire pit.

happy thrifting :)
